Tesla had no infrastructure to buy and sell vehicles for trade-ins or a Pre-owned program, while traditional OEMs relied on dealer networks that cut into margins and customer experience. As one of the program’s founding architects, I built the global operations engine - covering acquisitions, valuation engine, title/DMV, taxation, invoicing, refurbishment, logistics, retail listings, and reporting - that enabled Tesla to fully own the resale lifecycle.
The program grew from $0 to $1B in annual revenue, gave Tesla direct control of pricing and margins, accelerated global expansion, and set the foundation for modern EV resale data. It became the industry blueprint for how manufacturers can capture value in the secondary market.
